Listen With Your Heart — a poem

I don’t know why the birds keep singing, but they do.

When every thing is horrible. It’s true.

My mind is on the negative, transfixed.

The world is broken and our minds up-mixed.

I wake up every day and burn the wick down,

Before my feet have even touched the hard ground.

But little bird is on a branch a-sway,

With ne’er a worry of the coming day.

If God is in the Heavens, He’s in birds, too.

And that would mean, that God’s in me and you.

Oh, listen to what can be heard, unseen.

And lessons from the birds and creatures, glean.

There is a cosmic beauty, love, and grace,

In every feather, furry paw, and face.

We soldier on, when we should really dance.

And let the glory of the world entrance.

Today I will from mindful prison part,

And listen to the whole world, with my heart.

Still not old enough to know better. I root around and explore ideas in philosophy, spirituality, poetry, Judeo-Christian Worldview, family, relationships, and art. Often torn between encouragement & self-directed chastisement, I may sputter, but I still keep trying to move forward.

    1. Pastor Mike Weber — Thank you so much for reading and your kind comment. May you know today that truly, He cares for us much more than two sparrows, but He loves us enough to keep giving us bird song. 🙂 Shalom, Jane

      1. I’m afraid I have been remiss these past couple of months. I hadn’t seen anything from you for a while so I went hunting for your blog, wondering if you were okay. To my chagrin, I discovered that I had mistakenly stopped following you which is a shame since I appreciate many of your posts. Well I won’t be making that mistake again and look forward to what you will have to say

        1. Pastor Mike Weber — and here I am just getting this wonderful message from you. I have been doing a sort of a long term temp job from home and getting a son graduated from college (successfully on May 3!!) and have not had nearly enough time to connect. So glad to get this from you. I love your posts — heart, mind and soul — thank you for keeping in touch with me via this. Joy to you in your journey today, Jane

  1. I love listening to birds, feeling into their ancient language opens my heart into their sweet song. Listening to my heart’s song puts me in tune with the rhythm of the Universe feeling God’s divine love 🌎❤🌠😇

    1. MariaTeresa — I have come late to the joy of bird-listening. Better late than never, I am glad to say. Yes, there is something we can not completely understand I have realized about God’s divine love, if we never listen to the songs of birds. Just that simple and mysteriously profound. Shalom to you today, friend, Jane

    2. MariaTeresa –Your words are true as always. I feel that I have missed so much in not always taking the opportunity to truly listen for and to the birds. Yes, they connect us to what is ancient, to the present Presence, and I think to the future as well, because I always feel hope when I hear that the birds still sing. Happy happy day to you, my friend, Jane

    1. utahan15 — yes, this comment is quite interesting to me today after some reading I have been doing on the clever camouflages of evil. Thank you as always for your insight.
